Ommen is a municipality and a Hanseatic city in the Vecht valley of the Salland region, which is at the heart of the province of Overijssel in the eastern Netherlands (Kingdom of the Netherlands, Holland, Dutch). Archeologists believe that the first settlements in present-day Ommen arose in the 8th century AD
About four kilometres south-east of Ommen lies the Castle Eerde.
Eerde Castle, Ommen, Netherlands
Eerde Castle's beginnings date back to the 12th century. The original Eerde castle was besieged and levelled to the ground and rebuilt several times. The last building has the Dutch-classical style from 1715, surrounded by a 1,667 hectare estate in the Baroque style.
In 1924, Philip Derk "Baron" van Pallandt gave the castle and estate to Krishnamurti, Star of the East, to be the European home of the movement of the Star. Thousands of people flocked from 48 countries to hear Krishnamurti, the famous Indian religious philosopher, who later disbanded the movement and returned Eerde to the Baron.
Nowadays the castle houses the private international boarding school Eerde, which offers the International Baccalaureate programme.
Giving the castle and estate to Krishnamurti

Eerde: “In the name of the Masters of the Great White Lodge, Whose presence I solemnly invoke, now, in the fulness of my heart, by this token of a sod of earth and a blade of grass, do I give my Castle of Eerde and my lands in Ommen, unto MAITREYA, the Bodhisatva of our race. May He deign to accept this offering and to use it for the furtherance of His work.”
